You are right but it's not just Europeans, it's most people in most western countries - Australia, New Zealand, Japan etc. It's only the US where the majority of people are religious, and it's an unusual type of religion - the born again type - that dominates. The real question is why are Americans so religious in that way?

It could simply be that the US is an extremely conservative country now days. Or it could be that that type of religion appeals particularly to american culture, blind patriotism is similar to blind religious belief. Or perhaps the born-again emphasis on belief over doing good appeals strongly to the most individualist society. I don't know.

I just know that in my own country and in the few European countries I've been to, religion isn't a big deal, and society functions perfectly well, if not considerably more humanely, without it. Maybe we have just learnt that.

Probably because they have run out of graveyards to fill all those religious zealots who profess religion and are sick of burying their loved ones.

They are religious. It may be that they can not show it for their busy lifestyle but it don't means that they have forgotten about their culture.
