have you had an insight into the `average` american mind that has altered or affirmed your feelings toward them?

I'd always heard that the USA dont seem to realise anything outside their own country, until I came on this site and saw it put into practise.

I guess it has influenced me a bit - you cant help but get caught up in the "Them and us" mentality.

And of course you've also got the bible bashers which is quite scary - you dont get that so often here. (By the way, why do they always type God in capital letters???)

I'm English by the way

Oh come on, some of the other nationalities who post on here can be just as obnoxious as anyone from the States. I prefer to take people, real people, as I find them in the flesh. On the Net a lot of people feel free to vent their spleen and show their ignorance because it's an anonymous medium. I could say the same thing about some of the more silly opinions aired by some British people on here.
One heart at a time, one life to another. Stop thinking in sweeping generalizations!

Hasnt affected my opinion at all....I still don't have alot of respect for the "average" american mind.

Response: First you have to have a mind to recognize and respect another.

No affirmation was necessary. I've known it for some time.

Response: You and "The_one" must surely be related.

I think they need to remember a little thing called Pearl Harbor, plus our PM at the time asked them for help twice during WW2 and they bluntly refused. Now you can't stop them from getting involved.

Response: And ultimately we did help, despite initial reluctance, which changed the course of the war and put an end to what otherwise would have been the rise of evil domination in your part of the world. As for Pearl Harbor, we do remember and the world should remember too that when this little country gets pushed too far it does in fact have the backbone of a peoples who will stand up and push back in ways that make others wish they had never breached their shores.

We didn't respect you before why should ayone change their minds.

Response: We're past the point of seeking your respect. We've tried that in the past with too many others who asked for our help and then when things were better for them find that they're the same ones who stand up and point their fingers at us as the 'bad example' of the world. So piss off.

And they're all fat, I think they're gonna eat themselves to death.

Anyway Americas power is on the way out, this century India and China are gonna take over as the most powerful countries. I'm Irish by the way.

Response: It would seem the obesity in the USA is no worse or better than that in the UK and as for this prophesizing of new power in this century, you pay well be correct provided the US continues to support those other countries financial backbones by virtue of her purchasing power. Should the peoples of this country be forced to face the fact that their corporate leadership heirarchy has pissed away its countries lead in manufacturing, technology and search for alternative energy sources and collectively decides to tighten their spending habits then these other proposed world powers would find themselves right back in the sqaullor from whence they came.

... and I could go on and on but defending my countries honor and reputation isn't neccessary and for all you UK'ers who seem to flock here for your lifes vacations and then go home to bash us .... we thank you for all your cash input but your beer still sucks.

ps ~ in case of any mispellings I'd like to make it known that spell checker wasn't processing my request and it's time for my morning 3-mile walk so that I don't become obese.

No I had a low opinion of the 'average American' intellect even before this as evidenced by the fact that the American people elected George W. Bush into the White House, not once but TWICE. Q.E.D.

This site hasn't changed my views on Americans. George Bush on the other hand is a different story. He has single handedly destroyed the good name of all americans around the world in his 8 years of office as the president of the United States.

i'm english, i don't think this site give insight into the average american mind at all, it doesn't give insight to the average mind of any race, alot of answers are tonugue in cheek (although alot of people don't understand that) other answers only display the mood of the person at the time, the 'average' person probably doesn't use yahoo answers anyway.
American are very different to europeans but i like them for it.

Most of them are funny and interesting, but rude, too.
And I've noticed that some hate GWB as much as they hate terrorism, but others are very loyal to their president. And, also, some hate Muslims without a sensible reason and they keep repeating what they hear from others (one guy said that it's in the Koran that the Muslims must put all nonMuslims to death and I asked him to tell me WHERE IN THE KORAN has it been said, 'cos I'v read the Koran from cover to cover several times and have never come across anything of the kind he tells me, but he didn't have an answer to that....), but most Americans are very friendly and tolerant.

That's what I learnt from this site!

No not at all. I've known how Americans think for a long time as I have spent a lot of time in the U.S. There are loads of good people mixed with the bad and weird just like in my Country, which is Canada.

I've not come across that many yanks on here really. I've experienced Americans when I've been there, I like the place but Americans are just so loud and brash. Plus I really don't get the humor. What really annoys me is that you have cross words with one and they automatically say "if it wasn't for us blah blah blah". Makes you want to punch them.

I think they need to remember a little thing called Pearl Harbor, plus our PM at the time asked them for help twice during WW2 and they bluntly refused. Now you can't stop them from getting involved.

No, my judgement or respect of American has not been affected by this site, we all, no matter who we are have a right to our opinion, I see people for what they are and not for which country they come from.
