Actually sliced bread is sooo artificial. But was invented so to speak in the 50's to help the so called modern wife with her daily routine...Personally I prefer uncut bakers loaves and would say from a personal point of view that the uncut loaf was the best thing before sliced bread

Plain bread.
Sliced bread isn't even that great its sheer laziness really.
I prefer fresh bread that you slice yourself as then the thickness of your bread is totally up to you.
