Egg shells add calcium to your soil. It is especially great for tomatoes. Also...if you make hard-boiled eggs, save the water, let it cool and you can water your plants with it.
It also helps to repel slugs (especially around hostas). Those little shells will feel like sandpaper to slugs and they'll stay away.

Egg shells are made up of lime, which when available does raise the Ph of the soil. However, egg shells take a very long time to break down and thus do not provide much value at all, other than being an organic compound that will help with the composition of your soil.

My mom saves eggs shells in a jar of water and every two weeks waters her plants with it. Her plants are beautiful so I guess there is an advantage to using egg shells.

The calcium and sulfur in them. I keep a sealed jar of water with egg shells in it and feed a small amount to my plants once a month.

I know you uuse egg shells for compost and gardens and eggshells are 93% calcium carbonate so makes good fertiliser I hope this helps =)
