Forget L.A. Try Cannons in Dana Point or Las Brisas in Laguna Beach. Summit House in Fullerton. Flemmings, Irvine Spectrum. You won't regret any of these. Catch a sunset and a good meal with your celebration at the first 3.

Valley Suggestions
-only "hip" club in the valley - the firefly - it's in Studio City on ventura blvd and isn't marked (it's just a building covered in ivy with a door) - but the food is great and there is always some celebrity in there. ALSO - you will ALWAYS see someone in Casa Vega, that mexican restaurant on the corner of Ventura and Woodman in the valley.

Rio Lounge and Grill in the on Ventura Blvd between Studio City and Encino you get all you can eat dinner and a show and after the show is done 10pm it turns in to a club all for like $ 35 a person
i have done numerous parties there and we always go ther for bacheloret parties (show is sexy but not too much)

IL Sole on Sunset Plaza.. always full of celeb's.(Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox are always there) Make reservations. I enjoy sitting out side, it is a family owned restaurant and they treat everybody like a star!
Plus the food is amazing..dinner for two with cocktails could run you a hundred bucks plus..

Zagat lists these as good "people watching" (aka celeb spotting places):
Asia de Cuba (Mondrian on the Sunset Strip)
Spago (Beverly Hills)
Geisha House (Hollywood Blvd)
Blowfish Sushi to Die For (co-owned by Julian Lennon)
Chaya Brasserie (W. Hollywood)
Crustacean (Beverly Hills)

If you're looking for a great meal, with a fairly decent value i reccommend Mimi's Cafe, there are many of them. You won't see celebs, and it's not ultra fancy, but they do have some of the best food around. oh, i did see danielle fishel from boy meets world at the one in los feliz.
