Deviant behavior is behavior which differs from the norm.
For Example: In a group of 30 children, all but one needs to use the restroom twice a day. The child who does not have that need, or needs more usage of the restroom would be exhibiting deviant behavior as defined. In practice there are existing norms already constructed by knowledgeable people based upon lots of experience with sample groups. Individuals whose activity or performance flies way off of the expected numbers are considered to be deviant. Depending upon which way that deviation goes, that could be really good or really bad. If one individual learns exceedingly fast, for example, that might be really good. another could have his animosity exhibitions greatly accentuated which seems like it would be very bad as he/she heads toward maturity..
