Actually the exact reason is not yet explained as the nature of gravity is not yet understood. Some people are talking about gravity waves, but those are not yet proven to exist, some explanation comes from theory of relativity and n-dimensional spaces. The answer (when comprehenden one day) may be very complex.
One thing is for sure, the gravity is a ''force'' which exists between any two bodies and depends on the mass of the 2 bodies, if one is much heavier (man and earth for example) it pools the one, but if both are similar in mass, both would move closer to one another.

Do you know, that matter is mostly empty space [e.g 99.99999% of any atom is just space and the rest is matter] so if you just remove all the spaces and have "pure matter" then probably all the matter in the universe will be just the size of a foot-ball.

Now at big-bang this is how it was just a foot-ball of pure matter, then it exploded to create this universe. Now if this were to be true, for the matter to have existed as a foot-ball there should have been this strong attractive force, which as opposite to the explosive force of the 'bigbang'. Now the resistive force that is constantly trying to go back to the original 'foot-ball' state is gravity, thats what i believe.

If you believe in General relativity than gravity is the bending of space time.If you believe in Newtonian Physics than Newton refused to give an answer because he knew no one would believe him. so I have to believe the same way as Newton because I was never able to take space and time and then bend it.

As far as why we are sticking to the surface of the Globe most human dont even think about it. However there must be something holding us down.Than is all I can say.

pay attention. it is a property o matter of mass described by the laws you have already seen in the past. what you must understand is the properties of the field. a mas creates a field. the FIELD is causing the force. as in electricity magnetisms etc. the only difference is that only in gravity we have forces that are attractive only (conventional physics OK). now the body due to the mass is creating a field and the field exerts the force.

Gravity is generated by anything of sufficient mass, including the human body. There is no reason, it is merely a result of the attractions of electrons and neutrons. Build a stack of bricks, than hang a bowling ball from a rope. The bowling ball will be attracted to the bricks. One day we may understand the energy being produced that creates the attraction, at which time we may be able to create graviton generators.
