customer service and great prices..make sure you provide the best price you can offer. Kids usually know how much certain video games are and will buy them at the lowest price.
Also, know which games are hugely popular. visit gamespot frequently and research the games. good luck!

What type of shop. Is it a mall retail game shop, an Internet cafe that has Internet gaming, an Internet laundry that also sells PC games on the side, what?
Anyway, here are some general things that will help you get noticed. I'm sure you know these ones:
Contests - Offer new games in a raffle.
Sponsor some tournaments for different games.
If you run an Internet cafe or laundry with vending machines, try attaching 'prize winning' stickers to your vending products, and then advertise that fact.
If you run an Internet laundry, have a contest of somesort for a free year of laundry as a prize. If you can get a local radio station to set up a remote at your site when you run the contest or draw the prize, all the better (if possible).
I heard one time that an laundry mat was offering a free soap day to their customers. Somehow a laundry got a hold of a huge amount of bulk laundry soap at a deep discounted price and offered it up for free to their customers. I thought that was a cool and unusual idea.
Hope some of this helps.

the decor of your shop matters a lot to attract customers, the lightning should b very good to enjoy sitting and playing games + browsing. privacy is another key for customer attraction. prices shd b very reasonable.
Also, try to place some items for eating and drinking like snacks and juices + cigarettes so that people dont have to go outside for buying these stuff rather they shd get everything under one roof.
you can also have MUSIC DJ at your internet or gaming cafe, can have VIBRATING MICROPHONES so that ppl can enjoy playing games with vibration, webcams, scanners, printers, fast processing computers, comfortable chairs, nice and clean atmosphere, everything counts a lot.
best regards,
Xee!

1) cool display window. feature popular or rare items or good prices.
2) have at least 3 demo stations for people to try out games
3) play with sales gimmicks...example: 20% off if buy 3 games.
4) advertise ur opening..signs, flyers...maybe a cool sticker that kids will like. (the sticker idea might work out better if u have a cool creature/character associated with ur store.)
5) have a website that can be easily searched for by google/yahoo...make sure ur business is listed with yahoo/google.
6) would be really good if u can pass out short sample demo of games (especially the fun but not so well-known games).
7) think of events to increase traffic into ur store- example: contests.
8)occasionally have surveys...to find out what the local trends in the market are & find out about customers' views r of ur service. offer 10% off for completed surveys.
9)make sure ur employees know all of the products in ur store and know where they all r. also encourage them to offer help and greet customers.
10) don't just sell games. sell other products that ur customers r into and consider having gaming stations that they would have to pay to play.

do you mean a physical gaming place? if so, then you need good prices, good marketing, and a good location. You should also contact some local radio stations (with a youngish fan-base, 18-30 range) and see if you can set up some events with them.
Good luck.
