I guess they "think" they live in a perfect world. Well they may grow up that way, but if they look at reality, look how many people are overweight these days. You do not have to be super skinny to look good. There are plenty of men out there that like curvy women. There's nothing wrong with it. Young girls growing up now think that they have to be be "model" look a likes. Making yourself skinny can make you sick. Models have to go through a lot and put their bodies through too many changes. I wish everyone would just be themselves, I'm not saying eat everything in sight, I'm saying no one is perfect, just live your life for you..not others.

I cannot really say as it is all in the eyes of the beholder. For
example my husband thinks that I have not put on weight but in truth I have put on a vast amount of weight. My daughter on the other hand thinks that her weight is just right, but in actual fact she is extremely thin.

It has just been proven that people through out the world are getting fatter, but is this not due to the fact that we are all eating better and more convenience foods. Even in places like France I believe they are deserting their traditional ways of eating and turning towards these convenience foods.

But as far as models get thinner, I don't think that this is necessarily the case for the models of today. They certainly look a deal thinner but I think that is down to the type of cloths they're modelling.

Many years ago models were categorised and only the very slim models would show off sports and swimwear. And the more well endowed models would wear evening dresses and daywear.

The model industry has changed as models are required to be more than wafer thin. But for many models thinness is in the genes so not a problem.

The more we hear about the general population becoming too fat, the more everyone thinks of "fat" as something awful, and the more paranoid everybody gets about their own weight.

It does seem that everyone is one extreme or the other. Plenty of people who are overwieght are happy enough like that or can't be bothered to lose it.

But for the ones who ARE worried about it, its gotten to the point where every ounce of body fat is seen as a sign that you are creeping towards being one of "them". People are mostly concerned with "bulges"- any little bit of fat that could potentially stick out is undesirable. Even size 6 girls think that if they have a bit of tummy bulging over their jeans when they sit down, it's excess that they need to lose.

Hence models, whose job is to reflect the ideals of fashion, will not want any extra weight on them whasoever- and since it's their job, they work damn hard to make sure there isn't.

Body weight/fat ratio are mostly a result of diet and exercise. In Basic Training, the Army fed us three meals a day, high in protein and carbohydrates. I saw guys lose 30 pounds despite eating over 3000 calories per day! I also read in the Berkeley Wellness Newsletter of an expedition that hiked across the South Pole, eating a diet of roughly 7000 calories a day, and every one of them lost weight!

In 2006 America, school lunches are way too high in fat, kids play far too much XBox compared to playing (exercising) outdoors, and the propensity to eat out, fast food or other junk, is far greater than it used to be. I work in a restaurant and have for years. The fat people are fat mostly because of their diet, i.e. fried foods, multiple soft drinks, excessive sugar in their tea, globs of butter and sour cream, etc.

I'm not trying to sound crass, and I understand that weight control is more difficult for some than others, but medical records over the years indicate that we as a society are getting fatter due to our eating habits and lack of exercise.

Most supermodels are actually starting to be heavier as the "heroin chic" look of the 90s is gone. There is nothing wrong for females to look at the most attractive women and aspire to get themselves in the best shape possible, within reason. There are social pressures for guys as well, as the use of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs has proliferated in recent years.

Eat smart, exercise, take vitamin supplements, stay away from fad diets (low carb, South Beach), get plenty of rest, and you can attain your personal best.

the models are thriving on national obesity. the fatter ordinary people get the thinner they think they must be to balance it all out.

I think models look the same as they always looked. it just seems they are skinner because people have gotten fatter.
