I don't want wooden shoes or tulips. I'd like something I could display in my home.

Delfsblauw aardewerk or Hindelooper.
That is a kind of china with drawing on it special made in the Netherlands. Named after the place it is made. Delft, Hindeloopen.

Typical Dutch is (i think) also Cheese slicer, you even have them with 'Delfs blauw'.
A funny thing to buy for your friends is a special kitchen tool which is used to get the last bits out of a bottle, like yogurt or mayonnaise. (flessentrekker/bottle swindling)
And washing clove is maybe also typical dutch. On campsites I see foreigners not using it.

There are great reprint from van Gogh designs, they are great to take home and flat so easy to transport. You can get them at the museums, but there small kiosks as well, where you'll get them a little cheaper. There are also nice pencil pictures of different scenes in Amsterdam, like a bridge with bike, when you see them, you'll know what I mean. I know that the wooden shoes and tulips don't represent Holland as much anymore. It's more what people expect to see. Holland has much more to offer. Until the end of the year there will be a lot of Rembrandt remembrance, because of the 400 yr existence of his work.

I have a handcrafted miniature Windmill from there. It's a great conversation piece, and doesn't stand out like a wooden shoe. I did also get tulips, they remind me every spring of my travels, don't count them out.

Dutch China is beautiful. I mean you can get it anywhere but it would be neat to have a hand painted peice from Holland. You know, the White stuff with Blue painting.

If you want something typically Dutch that you can display then I would say some "Delfts blauw" pottery.
