I would kind of agree with classic pyramid of needs, compsed by Maslow:
1. Physiological needs
# the need to breathe
# the need to regulate body temperature
# the need for water
# the need for sleep
# the need to eat
# the need to dispose of bodily waste
2. Safety needs
* Security of employment
* Security of revenues and resources
* Physical security - safety from violence, delinquency, aggressions
* Moral and physiological security
* Familial security
* Security of health
3. Love/Belonging needs
* friendship
* sexual intimacy
* having a family
4. Status (Esteem needs)
5. Being needs
6. Self-actualization
7. Self-transcendence
In details, it is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs

Your question is rather useful and each and all the motives (they gained't keep in mind) are new lies to cover up the preliminary lie! yet Hellfire isn't a Bible coaching... i'm certainly one of Jehovah;s Witnesses and that i've got asked myself a similar question... in spite of the undeniable fact that it is worse than that... Like... How can they love and worship somebody NOW, (while they DO comprehend and keep in mind me), whom they believe even holds the belief of torturing me (or all of us else for that count) if i do no longer positioned as much as their theology!? Hellfire and torture is slander against God, individually and is no longer in cohesion with many stuff the Bible teaches... It in simple terms ain't so... in this style, in any different case useful human beings are susceptible to throw out the toddler (the Bible) with the bathwater (the fake stuff the Churchs instruct) = )

"freedom ´s just another word for nothing left to loose" the song goes so life it self is in the way but since you ask :
shelter,
food,
water,
love.
some humans are locked into 'have' instead of 'to be' so they try to buy it and soon they wither and die- bye bye.
you also.
happy.... hmmmmm
have you met ANY people genuine free and happy??
If so post it someware so we all can take a look at the monster.
So.

Respect, companionship, faith, and well being. This is ofcourse more related to what would make me happy but I'm human, last time I checked. I think some people would even say money. Sad but true.

Its a bit dated now I guess, but Maslows Hierarchy of Needs was THE THING when I was training.
To be frank it always a bit glib to me but then again its an easy way to get to grips with a difficult subject.

Water, food and air. Everything else is essentially down to the individual, surely?

Acceptance.
Whether it be just to fit in or to be taken at face value, we all like to have the acknowledgement of others in some form that it is OK to be the "me" that we choose.
