Speaking on Australian TV Channel Nine's "A Current Affair" news program Wednesday, Greer described those who mourned Irwin's passing as "idiots" and said possibly millions of Australians were embarrassed by him.

I am kind of curious as to what people think.

I think that the passion and animation shown by steve irwin is very rare to come by today. People may have been embarrassed to be associated ( same nationality) with him but only because they lacked a similar level of exuberance in their own lives.
I think that Germaine Greer should focus more on topics that she really cares about (if any), rather than trying to ruffle a nations feathers in the face of a passed, truly passionate man.

Argh! I never even knew this woman until she opened her fat mouth, so I take my pleasure in knowing that Steve Irwin is a legend and will always be remembered for doing so many good things and for being a GREAT PERSON, while this Germaine woman will now only be recognised and remembered (by me at least) as a loudmouthed ***** who totally disrespected the passing of a really nice person, who was loved by MILLIONS of people WORLDWIDE. I must admit, when I first saw Steve Irwin, I thought he was a bit nutty, but then I got to know him and REALLY LIKE him for his attitude on life and how PASSIONATE he was about our wildlife. Sorry I've gone on a bit, but I personally think this woman is an "idiot".

If find her comments in bad taste.

That being said, I can imagine australians would get bored about hearing of Irwins death. He made good TV, now he's dead. It's not like we've lost anything more than another season of "Crocodile Hunter".

Mourning is never "idiotic" - it is a feeling, not a judgment. Greer on the other hand.....

She is just another cheap whore who is trying to milk free publicity by making controversial comments.

Pathetic.

Yes, I was kind of happy for all those poor animals he had embarrased so much, they must have been happy, too.

I don't think much of her comments, but then most of her career has been based on her talking rubbish.
