I stayed with friends in Fez, the only downside would have been the lack of air conditioning.
The upside completely outweighs any downside, to be able to stay with people who actually live there gives you the opportunity to really experience the place. The tourist view is so very one-sided. If you have the chance, do it, just be aware of the religious constraints and show respect for that even if you don't always agree.

Hi there
I stayed with a moroccan family in Marrakech, they were friends of my husbands family and they invited me to see a traditional moroccan wedding. They were so welcoming and even though they couldnt understand my language they would explain with their hands and try to explain. They cooked all our meals and wouldnt let us even move to do anything, they waited on us hand and foot. They loved hearing me talk and would all go quiet when i started to talk lol bless them. You will have a fantastic time and see another side to morocco. Have a great time,

The only downside would be the curfew for females in the family.. so you can't stay late in most cases.. also you can't have your boyfreind visit...
