I was thinking of starting a home daycare (I have 2 kids of my own), however my husband and I are worried about possibly being sued for negligence if a child happens to get a boo boo. Has anyone ever heard of a home daycare being sued. Also, if I am sued (and god forbid i lose), can my home be seized in the suit?

Home daycare is good business, and with what the daycare centres ask, you'll get customers. Don't take on children that you cannot handle. when starting a business, its all about the risk, being sued, its part of the game. Take on about 10 children, get good children books, color stuff and have fun with the kids, don't overdo anything. If you do it for the money, you'll definetly run into trouble sooner or later, but if you do it because you love children, and want to be part of their education line, do it. I'll advise you to have a big room or biuld an extra room just for this purpose, teach to wriet and read, but take on kids that's the same age, it will be better to handle any situation.

Not only could you be sued, but you could - if some awful thing happened - be charged with something like negligence or something worse if some accident happens. (Not a pleasant thought, but is how it is)

You should ask an attorney (who may give you a free initial consultation) if you could protect your home by incorporating. Another thing may be having parents sign a waiver that would cover a number of possible mishaps or situations. I'm sure there would be limits on such a waiver, but it may help. Maybe your licensing agency offers information on this.

I heard of home daycare . The relation between mothers and home day care is much much stronger than other day care.So don't worry and open your eyes 4 everything. If there's forms and registrations do it fully so in case anything happened you will be in the safe side . my advice is " don't accept " newborns " at the beginning ! It's risky .

There is something like a standard waver. Just let the parent sign it and you are OK. After that you are only 'sewable' if you legally are negligent, like when a kid dies or gets into a coma, stuff like that.

If you get sewed (and they win) you are personally accountable to get that money. You can lose anything worth anything.

You can get insurance to cover such problems. Its low cost and well worth it. Call a local agent.
