It could be a matter of strength, too. If you feel stronger doubling, you'll probably do that more often than one-handed.
One-handed feels more natural, naturally. : )

Both have advantages and disadvantages. Ever since I started playing, I've had a two-hand backhand. It's stable and consistent. Currently I do wish that I had a one-handed backhand. You can rip winners a lot easier, disguise your backhand slice, and put more topsin on the ball. You also have more reach. Then again a one-handed backhand must be learned differently from a two-handed, you have to be more balanced, wind up more, sweep faster with the racket, etc. I guess it does depend on what suits you. If you can run around and boom your forehand, much like Andy Roddick, then a stable two-handed backhand is suitable and works well. And well Roger Federer....there's nothing to say there. Too perfect.

i say a double handed back hand would be more comfortible for me because i think it would be easier to hold the racket and also be able to place the ball properly.

kinda. i like using the two-handed just because that's how i learned it first and it gives me more control. i usually use the one-handed only when i have to play defensively

I would say it's personal preference and strength.
