Emo had originally simply meant "emotional." Now it's a fashion statement and somehow a genre of music...I love the music, but I don't understand the fashion statement nor on the opposing end, why people criticize it.
What is the true "emo" now? Or has it completely diverged from its original meaning?

No, I think it's more of a way of living (or it's going to be.)
It kind of sounds like the 70's (from what I gather, wasn't around.) The music, the clothes, the way of life...A lot of people got really screwed up in the 70's. Let's hope the same thing doesn't happen to "emo" kids.

It went from being some punk offshoot to being a big pop music sensation.
in the punk world it was emo punk, with lyrics about how you feel and love and stuff. It was more melodic. Punks usually sing about alienation and the government screwing them over. and it sounds like this...doot dat doot dat ruuuuhh raaahhh!!!!!!!!!!
emo was a break from that.

From what I see "emo" is now pretending to have problems that you don't really have. Being depressed just because. That's what the "emo" kids do.

It's like devouring a whole can of beans all by yourself, washing it down with a family-size bottle of soda, standing at the corner of Elm and Main and sending the most "emo...tional" set of belches and farts one could imagine !!!
