I am planning to sell some stuff around the house on ebay. I am concerned that no one will want ...say... a used printer, because it seems like most of things on ebay are getting sold. I am also wondering how do people make thousands of dollars by buying old things and sellin them again. Any advise ?

Selling on ebay can work wonderfully . . . or be worthless, depending on what you're selling and then how you present it. Selling items that have to "work" -- for example, a used printer -- is not a good idea because most people won't take your word that it will work properly and a photo of a printer that doesn't work looks just as good as a photo of a printer that works perfectly! So . . .you'll be much more successful with something like an antique bottle, a rare book, an old toy, etc. -- something that a photo and description can give the potential buyer a pretty clear picture of what he'll be getting. As you sell more and more on ebay you'll receive a higher and higher rating . . . hopefully and people will then be more likely to trust your descriptions.
As for buying old things and selling them, you have to LEARN something first; in other words, become an expert on the value of a certain category of collectible . . . of which there are thousands. It can be a great business, but you've got to know what you're doing!

If you trying to sell old stuff in the house , the money you make will be much better than you sell at garage sell , but you will not get fully back at full price that you pay . I can say like if you buy a guess jeans in store for $50 and selling one EBay you can only make about $20 if you lucky . So it's not a bad idea to sell on eBay .
