the only way to overcome a fear is to face it ;)
besides don't think you're safer on the ground - a lot of car crashes happen every day and people die of them too...i don't want to scare you but you nevr know what's going to happen and if you live in fear you can miss on some great things

Face your fears. Get on planes even if they are not going to take off just getting on them will help. (of course you need to know someone at an airport or someone with a plane.) Go for short rides on them.
There are some medications that make you relax but I would only suggest that if you are traveling with someone you really trust and never if you are traveling alone. I've also heard there is groups and therapy sessions that deal with this particular fear so if nothing else look into that.
Hope this helps. And I truly hope you get to travel like you want to someday!

No, actually I find travelling by plane to be quite boring. All the waiting. The only thrill is the take off and landing and the chance of sitting by a window so you can have a view.

Once I asked a similar question, and the answer that helped a bit overcome this fear was about pilots. Do you think they would fly planes so often if there was a big chance of anything bad? Do you think they would risk their lives?

imagine about it this way- you in many cases right here about each and each and every of the planes that crash. yet what about the tens of millions of flights that went promptly on by, no turbulence, no disturbances? close your window, and attempt to faux you're in a plane or a vehicle. If everybody round you is calm, then you really ought to cool down too.

I'm not scared of planes at all. I used to have acrophobia. The way that I cured it, is by jumping out of an airplane. At thirteen thousand feet, I said, "Geronimo!" and jumped. Well, actually... when they asked me, "Are you ready to skydive?"
I said, "Try to stop me..."
But I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane, because I was born to do it. It cures acrophobia, trust me. Of course, you have to be 18 or older to try it. My daughter will be 15 next week. You have time, if you wanna keep up with me.

I don't know why all U.S.A. citizens are still wit the 11sept. thing.
I mean, I know it was horrible and so, but you got to move on.
Really, the odds of being in a plane in where something happens and makes it crash are incredibly low.

I would be more scared of driving or riding in a car, you're much more likely to die in a car accident than in a plane crash.

im scared of planes too.. what i suggest you do is either, listen to the radio.. watch the tv.. or watch the clouds outside..
if any of these dont work... just close your eyes tight and sleep. you cant be bothered that way.. i take pride in knowing that someone is watching over me.. God.
