Because people tend to perfection. And when something wrong happens, obviously their lives aren't perfect, and so they can't stop wondering how could the bad thing that happened have been avoided.
It's like an on-going internal conversation with yourself that keeps you thinking about why something like this happened at all, why did it happened to you?, why now?? - it's always the question "why?".

The other theory is that pessimistic people tend to do this more often than the optimistic ones. This is why the pessimists are more depressed, and the optimists appreciate and enjoy their lives more. So why don't you try being an optimist for a a change??

It Seems Some Humans are determined to Be Unhappy, No Matter What. We Would Rather Dwell on The Saddest Moments of our lives than Be At Peace With Life. The Happiest People in the world are the ones that Wake Up in the Morning and say "Today is a New Day. The Past is Past, and Many wonderful Opportunities are waiting for me Right Now."

"The Optimist See's The Dough-nut...The Pessimist, The Hole."

We remember unhappy/traumatic events because they have more of an impact on our lives, believe it or not. While happy moments are great, but they don't leave a lastting effect on us. For example, if you broke your arm and you found 20 dollars on the street. Which one are you more likely to remember? The 20 dollars is awesome, but you will spend it and forget about it. While the broken arm you have to lug around a cast for 4 weeks, and you have the pain, and the the recovery and the awakwardness of it.

The trauma associated with unhappy events tends to leave more of a lasting "image" in our minds than a happy event. Happy events are seen more as "fleeting memories" and have less of an impact on our psyche when they occur, thus they are more easily forgotten over time.

I do remember happy moments sometimes even more vividly than unhappy ones. I think you remember unhappy events more when you always dwell on them. Just a matter of choice

For some of us unhappy events seem to leave a strong impact in our hearts and minds....it draws and image that you cant forget...but we dont forget happy events too ..i think that may happen because we seem to be ungratful ..maybe everytime you really count happy events comparing to unhappy ones you will find that happy one may be more...

i'm sorry, yet you may't ignore moments like that. by the years, you may detect strategies to administration, yet you received't ignore. For me, an afternoon with my proper friends will raise my spirits. both that, or a lengthy, lengthy communicate with them on the telephone/with the help of texting. I turn to God, because i have realised that those moments are trials, and that we want to detect strategies to trust Him and enable Him direct how our lives spread. i'm no longer particular in case you've self belief in God, yet verify with friends, snigger, and settle for that it is the cost you pay for those absolute gemstones of days the position each thing is proper. wish this allows :)
