I agree 110%
Lately, there have been many times I look down the list of questions under the political section and can't find a single one worth answering... for reasons like you mentioned.
I try to stick with questions that are seeking information or an honest opinion which seem to be rare lately.
As far as why they do this, I think it is a combination of a few things:
- all age groups are allowed here = going to have some immature ones
- hostility is up due to the anti-Bush movement in the country right now
- quite frankly, I can't imagine what a republican would have to talk about that would have any positive argument behind it... really.

Because it's against human nature to use your brain, and have a lively debate, when bashing someone and in the end, looking foolish and stupid is much more satisfying. Politics today is embarrassing, take the jerks out and put the intellectuals in. If you can't debate in a civil fashion, with you caps lock key off, then why bother? You are furthering no political agenda. All you are doing is making you and those who support the political party you choose look bad. This goes for people of any political affiliation.

I believe "answers" is fairly new, and people are trying it out !
It is still a bit of a novelty, and quite addictive !
We are getting a lot of "passing-through" customers, who just want to blow some steam ! some find it funny and fun ( I quite enjoy some of the darker sarcasms).
But it will grow, novelty will wear off, rules wil change ! , there may even be a private section in the future ( Yahoo are you listening ?) , where you and a chosen few can contribute !
The original idea was good, but there will always be , some people who just mess it up for everyone.

Some people do. There are quite a few very intelligent people around, and I for one very much enjoy reading their questions and their answers. Whether I agree with them or not.
But yes, too many people have nothing to say but hatred and rhetoric. Or the people who freak out because you confront their delusions with actual facts. And that's just a sad commentary on how far this society as fallen overall.

I think because they aren't really political questions per se, they are strongly emotional at the core. The wording is the first clue as to weather they are asked from an intellectual perspective or not.

I don't think that they are actually asking a question to receive an answer. They just want a forum to rant and have to do it here. Would you listen to some of the crap people post here, in person? I wouldn't. I'm guessing nobody will listen to some of these people in real life, so they post their ranting, raving, conspiracy theory BS here.

sadly, political commentary has become gratuitous.. just like the whole political scene, actually.. maybe it's a sign that nations are ruled by means of elections where uninformed, biased, fanatical and basically clueless people decide who shall govern

Because they are being framed by ideologues whose only purpose is to flame the other side and to draw attention to themselves. Thoughtful debate would be nice.
