To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.

How old are you? I think that as we have mature as we age we can understand these words more clearly.

To laugh often means to be truly happy within ones self.
Winning the respect of intellegent people shows that you are intellegent too.
Winning the affection of children shows that you are a gentle person who appreciates the simple things in life.
Earning appreciation of honest critics means that you give exceptional effort in the things you do.
Enduring the betrayal of false friends shows that you have the power of will. You are not revengeful.
To appreciate beauty & find good in others shows that you are not vain.
And if you do something good in the world which leaves a mark of hope in some way, then you have succeeded.

huh?
i think it means u should grow tomatoes in a garden, have your child help you, and then can the tomatoes and take them to the state fair.
When the canning judges call out your name as a winner,Laugh aloud and alot at your fellow quilt club members who tried to pass off Hunts canned tomatoes as their own.
As u walk up to take the blue ribbon, in your new pretty Sunday dress, u feel so good inside knowing u helped feed the hungry children in Africa by shipping your tomatoes to Sally Struther's and TrapperJohn's starving kids.
This is when you will know u r a winner!

it is exactly as it states itself!!!!!
words that we should and could live by but... we don't.
we still tend too think of being successful in terms of materialism wealth, affluence rather than a simple code of kindness and decency.
the poorest man who can give a hand by helping someone take their garbage out for them is a success.
or the wealthiest man who takes time to help his neighbor trim his hedges is a success.
its not a matter of how much you give or what kind monetary value too attribute to giving but just simply giving of your self.
what you do for or against another person can be the greatest gift or the worst crime.
that's my take on it any way ----as "bill and ted " said " be excellent too each other"...

THE MEANING OF ALL THIS IS THAT YOU ARE IN A PEACEFUL STATE OF LIFE AND WANT TO SHARE IT WITH OTHER PEOPLE. BUT A BETTER WAY WOULD BE TO SHARE YOUR SUCCESS STORY WITH THE UNPREVILAGED ONES WHO WOULD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR GUIDANCE. IN A DAY, EVEN IF YOU REMOVED A ROUGH SMALL PEBBLE FROM THEIR LIVES, YOU WOULD HAVE ACHIEVED A LOT OF HAPPINES FOR YOURSELF.
