Not everything is taxed, food is not taxed for example, plus taxes are different in each county. Also things that are necessities like clothes are also not taxed but only in certain states or counties. The item is priced by headquarters and the taxes are then added at the correct rate at the computer. Unless you are buying a car its really not that big of a deal only 5-8% on avg. I dont like a lot of things about the contries outside of the US that I have been to but I dont live there so I dont complain.

I would love to have the tax included in pricing, but I don't think it'll happen int he US. Since the states can set their own tax amount it would be difficult to regulate that from state to state. Some pay no taxes on items and some pay upwards of 9%. Even then though, you may not pay taxes on purchases, but they'll get you with higher property taxes. Maybe if they decide to go to a standard VAT (Value Added Tax) then the tax would be included. That would be hard to pass because than you would be looking at a higher standard tax of possibly 10-12%, which people would refuse to pay. It would take a huge revamp of the tax system to be able to include taxes in all of the purchase prices.
