There seem to be a lot of people who just don't know history. And they use their (inaccurate) facts to try to support arguments about current events, policy, etc. It's really disheartening to see such ignorance. I'm not talking about events in dispute, but basic facts. One doesn't have to be a scholar, but some general understanding of how we got where we are is useful.

Does this bother you too?

What are some of the most outrageous errors you've seen here?

I can't remember if I was outraged... but I was pretty shocked once.

I tell you in advance that History education in Hungary is pretty good, and since the story took place at my college, you can presume that people are aware of the basic stuff.

There was a debate about Israel, and one of the really intelligent girls thought the crusades' aim was to kill the Jews in the Middle East... lol I immediately told her that was not true, but she insisted.

I understand what you are saying completely, sometimes it seems as if people on this site just want to be seen and they really don't care if their infomation is accurate. There are a lot of jacka**es on this site too who give nothing but false information. I believe heavier moderation is needed to eliminate those users who only go on here to harass people. I say if someone isn't willing to give a thorough and conplete answer to the best of their ability then stay off the site. I am tired of seeing answers one word answers like "what?" and "dunno."
If that is all someone has to say, they should keep it in their head and off the site. I think the points system needs to be reformed as well. It has to be one of the main reasons why people put inaccurate or incomplete information on here when they answer a question.

What I find most interesting is people lack of the history of the Arabs and their belief in Allah. Allah is the God Of Israel and of Christians. Literally translated, it is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In other words, our God. Israelis and Arabs are cousins, both having descended from Abraham. Jehovah God was the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Islam is a fairly recent, in terms of hundreds of years, interpretation of the beliefs of ancient Arabs, just as Christianity is new interpretations of the beliefs of ancient Jews. But, just as Christan cannot agree on their beliefs, neither can Islams, or Israelis. There are many versions of Judaism.

It does not matter whether history is to likening of someone or not, learning history is an important part of knowing who we are. That is why I like watching the history channel, I learn so much that they didn't cover in school, like the fact that Japan didn't surrender because of the atomic bomb, but because the Russians canceled their no aggression treaty with them and are going to invade. Unlike America, they didn't care how many men were killed to do it, so Japan surrendered to us, weeks after the bomb was dropped.

Another interesting item is the Calutron Girls, high school girls where were hired to produce plutonium for the first atomic bomb.

It doesn't bother me one bit. The whole thing is hillarious...Anyway, even if you are half-witted, you can understand that yahoo answers is not exactly the place to learn history. Yo should try actually reading some stuff yourself...

No. We all have our own individual interests and there are people who just are not keen on history or politics.
