it's about a woman who falls in love and marries the man....rather quickly, on a whim even. then he goes overseas for work.....and she has a series of hot sizzling affairs behind his back. do you think i would be persecuted by the public for being immoral, if so, should i end the book so that the heroine "learns a lesson"?

Wouldn't worry about the "morality" or "immorality" issues; your publishers will let you know if there's problems with their particular markets! I can't see average affairs---even a run of them---causing you to be "banned in Boston".

But will the readers be able to identify with the woman? Or with another character in the book, like the husband? (Who's telling the story, anyway, a narrator? How will people "see" what Missy is doing?

What sort of conflicts will you have, or entanglements showing up, that make the reader scream "what happens next? You GOTTA tell me!" and keep reading? I've read my share of porn and erotica (as one example), and a lot of really hot sexy scenes can get very boring after about the seventh or eighth tryst....

"Avoid cliches, as you would the plague." Just about every character in a story, IIRC, learns some sort of a lesson; how else do they develop and grow?

Good luck with the ideas. Are you reading the writing magazines and/or working with a writing workshop? Both are very helpful for helping you expand your talents (from what I've heard from professional writers at conference panels).

You write the story the way your heart tells you it needs to be written.

Some of the very best stories end on a down note - the sinner punished - think of Frankenstein.

If you are aiming for romance - you need the happy ending
If you are aiming for purple prose - make the sex graphic

The question is - where does the story want to go? if you can't tell, then this is not a full enough storyline yet - you can still write it just to be in the practice of writing, but it is likely not to work as a commercial piece.

Good luck!

I think it is only shedding some light on what really "could" happen in such cases, and we know that such stories occur all over the world especially with expats who don't go back home too often.

On whether you'll be thrashed by the public about it, It depends on where are you releasing the book (country/publishing house) and how much are you ellaborating on the "sizzling affairs".
I think if you tried to tackle it in a dramatic, human way it should do well. Might even grow to become a movie.
good luck, let us know of its progress.

It has the potential for a good plot, but you always need a positive ending. Does she learn anything from the affairs? What happens to her husband? Will she confess all? Etc, etc., etc...
Good luck to you.
