Change your career to Programmer or do Computer Science.

Repairing computers aren't much of a huge paying job ( unless you are in a workstation where billion dollar servers breakdown and you are the nearest one to fix it)

Hey, im currently doing this for extra cash because i still live with my parents and i'm studying so i don't need money other than the one I recieve from my parents, but I work on computers giving service to them and usually charging from 500 to 1,300 pesos mexicanos, (form 50 to 130 usd) and I charge 30% out of what a new computer may cost (If everything in parts cost 500 usd i charge then 650), it makes a nice living for me, But I just do it to close people, getting like 2 or 3 computer per week, maybe if you can put your own bussiness you will make more money, I mean in Best Buy the geek squad charges 300 usd for what i charge 70! that's a nice market, just keep it cheap and reliable...

There is little money to be made in the commercail industry with computers, However I've been working in telecommunications for about 15 years. There's alot of computer, networking and communications equipment in this industry to work with and the pay is top notch, with some selective technology education you can easly make close to 6 figures.

I used to work for Dell in Lebanon, TN. Starting pay was $9.25 an hour for an entry level position. But almost all of the entry level employees were handled through a temp agency in a temp to hire deal, where you work for the temp agency for x amount of time before Dell will consider hiring you as one of their full time employees.

It was a good job. I had no complaints about it. In the end I had to leave due to family reasons.

Dell is popular down here in Tennessee. They have two plants and a call center down here.

The first plant is in Lebanon, TN. They make desktop computers.

The second plant (Newer plant. Open for about 2 yrs now) is in Nashville, TN. and they make Dell's laptop computers.

Not sure where the call center is. I wasn't interested in that part of the operation.

Best of luck in your new career.

Not much money building computers or repairing. Possibly better in tech support ..helping people with virus problems, etc. Laptop repair can be worthwhile if you can get the neccesary parts to do it.. THINK CAREFULLY before you quit your other job unless you know what you are doing..

Your best bet to find out how much you might be able to make is to ask around where you live (or plan to live) and see how much people around there make. I could tell you how much I made and you may think it is low, but I probably live where the cost of living is lower than where you live, so I don't need to make as much.
