Get the pregnancy test from the market. Go to a gynecologist. Don't assume this pain is caused by pregnancy, it could be something else, especially if the test shows negative.

The mid-wife mentioned that at one of the ante-natal classes we went to. If I remember correctly, you can feel by pressing hard on your privates, on your mons. Press hard and you'll feel a bumpy boney bit.

See the illustration on wiki.

The idea is to estimate the size of the fetus by first feeling for the top of the pubic bone, then press down carefully on the womb and find where it ends. You'll feel the actual curvature of the top of the womb as it goes deeper into your abdominal cavity. As the pregnancy progresses, the distance between the edge of the pubic bone and the top of the womb increases. You should be able to refer to this to estimate whether the fetus is developing at a normal rate.

I can't remember what size the womb is to be at what stage though. Maybe I can find something to remind me in a bit.

Don't quote me on this, but I seem to remember it's 1cm for every week of pregnancy. So if you're 20 weeks, you should be able to measure 20cm from your pubic bone to the top of the womb, give or take 2cm either way.

Ask your midwife.
