Answering who will win first, I think the media has pretty much declared Ryan Howard the MVP with Pujols 2nd and Beltran 3rd.
As to who should win the MVP, based on seasonal performance and what they mean to the success of their team, Miguel Cabrera of Florida is the clear choice. 2nd in batting, 8th in runs, 1st in doubles, tied for 17th in homeruns, 7th in rbi, 3rd in on base percentage, 6th in slugging percentage, while playing on a team that is 10th in the league in hitting and 8th in runs scored. This is also a team filled with rookies that he has helped lead from being 20 games under .500 at one point this season to being 1 game over .500 currently. However, he plays in a small market and gets virtually no exposure, he will be lucky to make the top 10 in the actual voting.

Being that I'm a Mets fan, I'll try to be fair about this.
IF the Phillies win the wild card, hands down, no question, Ryan Howard should be the MVP.
If the Phillies miss out, then the MVP should be Jose Reyes. Jose is the most electrifying player in the game today. He has 17 HR and 71 RBI batting at the leadoff spot. He has 56 Stolen bases, leads the league in runs scored and triples and plays gold glove defense. Yes, Beltran, Delgado and Wright on the Mets all have over 100 RBI, but the reason for that is because Jose Reyes gets on base and scored almost everytime he gets on. It is my true belief that in the next two years, Reyes will hit 25-30 HR and be the most dominant 5 tool player in the league.
And also, someone said David Ortiz, last time I checked, the Red Sox were in the American League...silly me...

Albert should win. He is basically carrying the Cardinals on his shoulders into the playoffs, not only offensively with 44 homeruns, 116 RBI's, and .322 avg, but has greatly improved as a first baseman and can serioulsy be considered as a gold glove winner. Even though Ryan Howard has more homeruns than Albert, he is not taking his team to the playoffs. Albert also has more runs scored with 102 and stolen bases with 6. Carlos Beltran, though worthy of recognition, does not even come close to Albert Pujols in my mind. His average is a mere .284. Every other statistic is pretty close to Albert with 39 homeruns, 112 RBI's, 102 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases. But I just don't think that he is as much of a valuable player to the mets and Albert is to the cardinals.

All 4 are having great years. Howard seems to be gaining a lot of ground with his tremendous HR year and the surge he has helped the Phillies to put on. Pujols is maybe the best player in the NL and Beltran is also deserving. I think the presence of Reyes and Delgado and Wright all having such great years on the Mets probably hurts all their chances for this individual award. I think Howard will win, but Beltran really should win.

I think Ryan Howard should get NLMVP because without him the Phillies would not be where they are today.
That seems like the description of a real team MVP.
But, based on popularity, or name recognition, Pujols will probably get it because his name is attached to nothing but good things and everyone loves a home-run hitter.
