What if some home grown terrorists blew up say the Houses of Parliment, or Buckingham Palace, or something of major importance in the UK, how do you think the government and more importantly the public would react?

Don't get me wrong, 7/7 was terrible, but in the scheme of things, was not that bad, in relation to destroying an UK institution.

In response to Lohan: I think you are missing the point here. I have also travelled the tube (recently voted best underground transportation) but 60 people dying in the scheme of things is realatively minor(9/11 3000+, 100+per day in Iraq, God rest all their souls) also the tube may be a tourist attraction and a 20th century institution, but certainly is not a foundation of British society. An example: How mourners showed up at the tube to lay wreaths, and how many wreaths were laid after Diana died.(God rest her soul), and she was 1 member of the royal family. Not the IRA or Fanatical Muslims have attacked the foundations of British society.

As 25% of Muslim's here have sympathy for such things i presume they would alienate themselves even more and the BNP would get more support and all the people who tolerated their arrogance and desire of rights and supremacy here would just say "go home" this has been our soil for thousands of years you are no longer welcome. (that's what i think buddy). They came here in the 70's and they live in closed communities with no integration, that's gotta be asking for problems yeah?

wasn't 7/7 bad enough? I think what happened that day and after gives you some idea of how people would react.
nick c - the london tube is an institute. I use it every day and see tourists taking picture of stations such as Baker Street and trains. The london tube is as well known as any other institute. why should blowing up somewhere like the Palace be worse then the 4 bombings on 7/7? all bombings are bad regardless of where it takes place and I hope that we never experience it again.

Look up the Civil Contingencies Bill that went through Parliament with barely any media coverage. This gives the Government the power, in the event of some disaster, to suspend elections, declare martial law and remove habeus corpus. We would instantly be turned into a complete and total fascist dictatorship until such time as the emergency passed.
The only problem is, the government decides for itself, what constitutes a disaster and they decide when the emergency has passed based on their own secret critria. This may be open to abuse.

The British people are very tolerant, patient and slow to anger but if the day comes when enough is enough I dread to think of the consequences.
Government will advocate restraint but the people will speak !
Whomsoever perpetrated or triggered their anger will reap the whirlwind and this country will never be the same again.
All communities must peacefully learn to INTEGRate not DOMINate
Terrorists will learn the hard way that we are now and always will be, a UNITED KINGDOM

We'd feel like we did on 7th July.
Sad, unsafe, worried about loved ones, disapointed.
But there wont be any rioting. Thats partly why I love London, the sense of community and multiculturalism keeps most peoples minds clear of racism and stops the witch hunts.
The government would rebuild buildings, we'd have a memorial day and make some sort of sculpture to remember the victims.
London has been bombed for on and off for the last century and it hasnt collapsed yet.

Something really bad did happen, the London bombings 7/7.
As no one or nothing of major importance was killed or destroyed the governments biggest response was to keep letting in the immigrants and let in more would be terrorists.
So my thoughts are it will take what you suggest for the government to react, but how long will the true Britts hang out for they do something

I know a group of people who would be delighted but I'm not allowed to say what I and every other English person thinks regarding exactly who they are because I would then immediately get reported - again, and again, and again - and I still couldn't care less if I upset them or yahoo. What I'm thinking (and having to keep quiet about) is true, whether they like it or not.

The BNP will come to power and use the streets as the house of commons and that's where policies will be made and implemented.
By the people and for the people.
