Protection bar is part of a virus called SpyQuake and cannot be removed by normal means. It is in your Windows Registry.

I had it.

Download a free copy of Hijackthis at

http://www.download.com/HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10379544.html?tag=lst-0-1

Run Hijackthis and carefully scroll down until you find the line that contains the words "IntCodec" and/or "Protection Bar"

In my computer, it was in the series of line #04

Check the box and use the delete feature of Hijackthis

Do not delete any other lines. They are in your registry and you will need them.

Reboot your computer.

The Protection Bar will be gone.
