Yes, most of the time, but you should be honest with someone. Acting happy is one of the most effective ways to become happier. However, if you act happy all the time when you're not, no one will know when you need help. I went through a very rough time a couple years ago and everyone around me said "but you seem so happy, nothing ever bothers you". If I had let a friend or family member or even a therapist know how bad I felt, I wouldn't have had to suffer alone.

Well, I find it easier to do things if I pretend to be happy - I get serviced faster, say, at the post office, if I go with a smile and a friendly disposition, than if I go grumpy and that picks on the grump of the postal officer.
Also, I don't want to lash at other people (strangers) when I am unhappy - it's not their fault that my boyfriend ditched me, or my boss is an idiot, it really isn't.
So overall I prefer keeping a sunny facade, and then work inwards to cut out the wallowing in the "unhappy" feeling and get back to my usual jolly self. And not allowing myself to indulge in thinking about problems I can do nothing about really has increased the time I am feeling happy.

Yes, for the sack of all the good things in the world around you. I personally believe that it is impossible for anyone to encounter pure unhappiness in life. If life is like a desert even then there are grains of gold in it. If we sometimes feel unhappy deep down then this is because of some happiness deeper still. Otherwise, we would not have sensed unhappiness at the first place.
Besides, all people who claim to be unhappy are either hypocrites, or they are ignorant. The fact is that we try our best at every step of our life - whatever that best might be. We simply cannot live with the second best in life. It is impossible. And what we get in response to our efforts is the best that life can give.
Sometimes, people are happy inside but get themselves caught into a pretentious mood for some reasons that they do not know how to get rid of. They have deceived themselves, sincerely or insincerely, for so long that they have almost forgotten how to express happiness. Then there are people who live in ignorance and suffer, where they could have lead a very happy life with a little effort.

I can't pretend. My face is like a book. But saying that, I usually try to make a effort and soon pull out of depressing spells. After all other people don't want to know all my sorrows.

Sometimes it can be necessary eg if at work, but also a smile on your face changes the way people react to you, no-one wants to hang out with a miserable sod, and company is often what you need to shake yourself out of it so it can be beneficial to smile!

I don't know. But a smile uses less muscles than a frown and if you act happy and smile then you usually start to fell happy.

Yes. Remember it takes less muscles to smile, so everyone should smile, just so their muscles do not become old and torn. A smile a day.

If you get a good look at my bare butt while I am laying on my side, you will see that I am always smiling.
