Black forest is one of those that look marvellous, but when it comes to the eating are nearly always a 'dry' let-down. For me, you can't beat a good old bakewell tart with plenty of icing and glace cherries on top. I frequently bake two 12" ones*, let them cool, then pour icing over them, then a load of halved g/cherries. Made like that, they're only about 3000 calories a slice !!!!!
* - I never cook anything singly - it takes just as much prep and clearing up to make a load for the freezer. For that reason, I make macaroni cheese four pints at a time! (That's 4pts white sauce, THEN the cheese -1k or 2lb !!!)

I love German apple cake with thick cream and custard, but my favourite dessert is Mars Bar Slice, which is the one of the best slices (i think) in the world!

Carrot Cake is the best when made properly.

But I'd have to say my wife's Coffee Cake( made with a couple of shots of espresso & some ground coffee)
