Officially, you can send damaged bills to a department within the Treasury, who will replace them with new bills, so long as 51% of a bill is salvageable.

You could just tape the two halves together and most places will accept it (so long as the serial numbers match, although I doubt the 16-year-old at Dairy Queen will bother to look).

The bill will probably be destroyed within hours of being deposited anyway.

If you have both halves sure! just tape them back together again - remember to use both halves though that matches the serial #'s - if you have only one half - take it to the bank since they can still give you a dollar and send that portion in to federal reserves as a mutilated bill.

Money is good, even if it's burned, as long as you can tell it was money. Granted, you may not be able to tell what monetary value it had and that could present a problem.

That being said..take it to a bank and they have to exchange it for you.

Yep that's how my mom got us to clean our rooms when we were younger. She would cut a five in half, give us one of them, then when our room was clean we got the other half. Worked every time!

As long as you tape it back together....the rule is that more than a third of it can not be missing, I think.
