Native american reservations casinos only pay taxes to the national government and not to the states since reservations are "sovereign". California politicians believe native casinos should pay taxes to the state. Indeed, some tribes do give the state taxes. On what basis do you think tribes should pay taxes?

yes, if they want government assistance they should. It was terrible what happened a long time ago to them, but all races and nationalities of people have had things happen to them in the past. If they want to be treated as equals, they should get no special treatment. Same goes for all groups of people.
Equal=Everyone treated the same.

In my opinion the Native Americans make so much money from our people and I have been told that they do not play their own people. It about time that some tribes should pay taxes to the State. The rule is the State of California pays so much for undocumented workers who send money home approximately 3 billion a year while the state of California pay the health care and benefits for undocumented workers. The State of California needs all the help she can get and she may have to help the Native tribes that have problem and it is humanitarian purpose if any of Casino Native leaders do not take care their own people. Thank you for asking this question.

Well Rufus, it sounds like you do not have a clue as to what in the heck your talking about, The Federal Goverment charges thee above said Native American, Casinos, Gas stations, & Reservation , A YEARLY FEDERAL TAX , on every thing we buy sell trade and give away. Rufus send me litature about the so called " National Government", show me any thing with their name and it pertaining to Native Americans. Tribes do pay taxes, they pay more taxes than you give them credit for too.

No. Because they are not part of the states.

Just like California cannot charge tax against property owners in Nevada or Arizona, they cannot charge tax against native reservations. The land is not within the jurisdiction of the state.

LET ME FIRST SAY, EXCUSE ME IF I COME OFF A LITTLE IRRITATED, YOU DID NOT SEEM TO BE RUDE IN YOUR QUESTION...BUT WHEN I ANSWER HERE, I AIM MY ANSWER TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC...

ARE YOU AWARE OF WHAT IT MEANS THAT RESERVATIONS ARE CONSIDERED SOVEREIGN NATIONS? RESERVATIONS HAVE THIER OWN GOVERNMENT, CONSIDERED A SEPERATE ENTITY FROM THE REST OF "AMERICA".

THIS WAS DECIDED BY YOUR FOREFATHERS, AS THE WHITES JUST COULD NOT FATHOM THE CONCEPT OF THE TRIBAL NATIONS BELIEFS OF HONORING OUR LAND AND LIVING AS ONE WITH THE EARTH. SO THEY DECIDED TO CONFINE THE TRIBES TO LAND THAT WOULD BE BASICALLY INVISIBLE TO THE REST OF "AMERICA".

SINCE THE NATIVES HAD BEEN HERE FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS BEFORE THE WHITES(WITH LAW AND GOVERNMENT INTACT), AND THIS LAND WOULD BE MUCH MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND IF IT HAD BEEN INHABITED BY ONLY INDIGENOUS TRIBES FOR ALL THESE YEARS IT ONLY MAKES SENSE THAT INDIGENOUS PEOPLE NOT HAVE TO PAY STATE TAXES.

IF IT WASN'T FOR THE INVASION OVER 500 YEARS AGO, THERE WOULD NOT BE TAXES TO PAY.

ONE OF THE ANSWERS MENTIONED THAT WE "USE THE RESOURSES, SO WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY".
WELL, IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT, SINCE THE ECONOMICAL GROWTH AND THE LANDS SEEMINGLY SHRINKING AVAILABLE AREA, THE "AMERICA" IS SPILLING INTO OUR RESERVATIONS LIKE A FLOODED/BUSTED DAMN! SO IT'S UNAVOIDABLE FOR THE INDIGENOUS NATIONS TO TOUCH OUTSIDE OF THE RESERVATION...WE SHOULDN'T BE ASKED TO STAY ON THE LAND, THAT WAS OUR ANCESTORS PRISON, FOREVER.

SO YOUR FOREFATHERS CAME HERE, PILLAGED THE LAND AND PEOPLE, STUCK MY FOREFATHERS ON HORRIBLY DEVELOPED LAND, GAVE THEM THE RIGHT TO SOVEREIGNETY, AND NOW YOU ASK...
SHOULD MY PEOPLE PAY TAXES?

MY PEOPLE ARE IN THE POSITION THAT THEY ARE IN NOW, BECAUSE OF WHAT YOUR ANCESTORS DID, SO NOW THAT TRIBES ARE COMING OUT OF THE GROUND THAT WE WERE POUNDED INTO, WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT AGAIN?

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THANK YOU TO: x_ducati.
YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT.

The U.S. should've given the Indians a better break a long time ago. That **** is over with, it's time to say 'Look, you're an American now, that means NO SPECIAL TREATMENT'. Sorry, they should pay taxes like everyone else. They use the resources that the state provides, they should pay the taxes. They have enough money to open a friggin' casino for cryin' out loud.

I think they should pay taxes just like every other American. We all live here, and most are citizens. Taxes should be paid by everyone. And I'm half Native American.

Yes. Doesn't the state pay for roads and schools in the reservations?
