We should care
because we are an intellegent society who regularly intervenes in the world acting as loan officer, police, and plunder.

as an intellegent person you should not only care, but also care that 2 million kids in the world go without food every day.
you should care because no flag or religion will stop you
from being a human first.

and on judgement day look out.

Your question sums up what a lot of people say about US citizens. You are too insular and take no interest in world politics.

Here in Britain we take an interest in elections all over the world. The fact that you even ask the question when you have a land border with Mexico is quite worrying.

Just out of interest, you don't seem to know that Mexicans are the ones who are actually American - you most certainly are NOT - you are United States Citizens. You have a few people in your 50 states who are Americans, but after that the only Americans in the world live in SOUTH America, not the USA.

sorry but why should it be "other than they are our next door neighbors?" i mean of course we should pay attention. do you follow the elections in say central africa? or south america? mexico and canada are two of our closest allies precisely because of proximity.

PAN has been declared the winner this time around, therefore business as usual in regards to american diplomacy. if PAN had not won there would have been a serious shift toward socialism which has always been lurking right below the surface. now, i don't mean socialism anymore left than canada, and probably dramatically less than northern europe, but the fact is that would scare the conservative centrist/right government of the us; we have major oil deals with mexico. many of our largest us companies have large investments there. there are a lot of americans living in mexico (still us citizens that we are responsible for).

Its the same reason we care so much about what happens with the Iraq government. Foriegn governments - especially ones so close to us - are going to have an impact on our society. We do a lot of importing/exporting with Mexico. I don't know why people wouldn't care. Maybe I feel differently because I live in New Mexico. I am not as removed from it as people from other parts of the country are.

Becuase it was only the second "clean" election in the history of the presidency. Many people thought that the election was going to be rigged as it had been in all elections prior to the election of Fox. Had that happened you would have seen a mass exit of Mexicans for the US.

throughout history our american government has been famous for immersing ourselves in other countries' businesses. we are up to date with other countries' economic, political, and social concerns because we are the US. we start and end wars just because we can. american students follow the pres race to be informed with current events. americans are affected if they have family in mexico, or are concerned with corruption there/in foreign countries.

Mexico narrowly escaped doom in this election. All we can do is support Calderon and hope the Mexican economy improves and with it strength in the concept of democracy.

If Mexico does not get their act together, we will never stop the illegals from trying to get here. Mexico is a corrupt mess and is becoming a threat to our security.
