Hi I am doing a research to see if people would go for or against the cochlear implant in deaf children, and why is the reason you chose that answer. I know that many people might go for it but why not against it? Thank you for helping me in this research.

i am middle-of-the-road....for some, a CI won't do much good...others, it may help...

if we are talking about a kid who's old enough to understand and answer, if they are asked, "would you like to have an operation to help you hear?", then i am for it... they should still have a say...

a friend of mine has had a CI since she was... 7 or 8 if i remember right...shes uses Total Comminucation (signing, speaking, lipreading, etc.), and she is able to go out and enjoy clubs and such, so... :)

Well, this is really an intimate question for many people. I think that it is a good thing in some situations, and if the child so chooses later in life to not use it, that is their choice. I think it should be left up to the parents to decide whether their deaf children should have the Implants...-unless the kids are in their teens- & then it should be THEIR choice. I'd imagine suddenly being able to HEAR- might be alittle more than some kids are able to handle at that young age... It should be considerd carefully before going ahead with...

I never heard of cochlear implants before. But I looked it up, and it sounds like a good thing. So yes, I'd say I'm for it.

definitely for..no child should be deprived of sound and speech if an implant would improve them. It is wonderful to see the look of surprise on a child's face the first time they hear a sound, be it a dog, cat, rain, or a doorbell. It would be a terrible injustice to deprive them of this.

Different strokes for different folks. For some people it's an appropriate choice, for others not.
