The record being "sealed" or "expunged" prevents the prospective employer from obtaining the information. You could lie and they probably would not be the wiser, however, they may choose a polygraph test as part of the hiring process, and one unexpected question about an arrest or conviction could trigger a flag. They include the question on job applications hoping that it is answered honestly, but there is no way they could legally know for sure. If it were me, I would not lie, and take my chances telling the truth. The employer may find value in honesty, and give my character rating high marks.

Most applications, and most states, allow you to not disclose anything that is sealed by the court.

Laws vary by state. Check your local listings.

yes, you can deny the knowledge of what they ask, however, most likely it was something that accured when you were a child, under 18yrs. also if the agency thats asking is not a goverment agency...feds,or state gov, the job isn't security related, then deny ,if they can access the info they wouldn't ask you about it they would already use it against you.

You mean will sealing your record allow you to lie?

You might get away with it, but you'd be better off owning your past.
