Hydrogen.

You could try exposing the gas to the oxygen in the air and apply a spark. It will cause a small explosion.

Acid + Metal= salt + hydrogen gas

test for hydrogen gas :
put a burning splint into the gas ... the splint should extinguish with a pop sound .. :)

b) Hydrogen is combustible. bring a lit match near the opening of the collection tube - it goes POP!.
