Stress on the eyes, tired eyes, or dry eyes can all cause redness, and even cause blood vessels to actually burst. One of the most common things that causes blood vessels to burst is going through child birth. The constant pushing and straining surely can cause this, and it is actually a very common occurance in child birth. They say it is harmless, but it sure looks awful. I wouldn't wear contacts if the eyes are already stressed, I'd wait if possible, or get a pair of glasses to use until it clears up. Remember, it's a symptom, so find out the cause...

Hypertension, and other things that increase the pressure in the eyes can cause the superficial blood vessels to burst.
Wearing contact lenses, depends on which blood vessel you burst..
I would call your eye doctor to double check, but usually it is fine if it under the conjunctiva.

Several factors may contribute to this condition. Pre-existing medical conditions, trauma, infection/disease, etc., may or may not be the cause. However, if memory serves me correctly, one of the most common causes is a lack of oxygen to the eye itself. i.e. the eye is being starved of the necessary oxygen it needs to function properly, resulting in occular strain/stress.

I am guessing that either the cleansing agent that you use for your contacts is less than effective or that your lenses need to be cleansed more thoroughly. Furthermore, it may be safe to wear the contacts, but I doubt it will aid or expedite the healing process if oxygen absorption is the cause.

I'd be happy to look into this further if you would like, okay?

p.s. I hope my lotion suggestions were helpful (regarding your ? on body lotions)! Take care/ I hope this was helpful!

You've gotten some good answers. Stress and strain on the fragile capillaries of the sclera caused by any number of things including trauma. Wait until it's resolved before you wear your contacts.

i've worn contacts for 40 years and never had that happen to me. You're right to leave your contacts out but it is best to check any problem like this with the eye doctor.

The cause is any sort of strain - vomiting, or coughing really hard can cause it. It should be safe to wear contact lenses - if it starts to hurt at all, take them out though.
