Why do Americans seem to be fighting with each other more and more each day? Are we not supposed to be the United states? We seem to act a lot more like we are divided...

Okay, it doesn't help when people start blaming each other in here... This is exactly what I am talking about.

Active, internal dissent that is supported by our constitution is what makes the US different from most "democracies". It is NOT a bad thing to have vocal dissent. It brings about political change, slowly but surely.

It is an extreme plot against America, the media and their hatred of Republicans and Conservatives, are the unknowing, and ignorant pawns:

The White House also unveiled a letter from bin Laden to Taliban leader Mullah Omar in which he wrote about plans for a "media campaign to create a wedge between the American people and their government" so the people will pressure leaders to retreat in the fight.

We are fighting each other because nobody wants to do anything about the 800 lb gorilla in the room, i.e., big government. We have so many rules and laws, and so many new ones are being created each day, that intrude much too far into our personal lives. Our bank accounts, phone calls, internet activity, consumption patterns, relationships, and whereabouts are monitored 24/7. We are rightly becoming paranoid because there is no relief and no escape. Add to this the constant communication, news, and advertising bombardment, and it's easy to see we're a society gone mad.

Yes, we are very polarized. Would be nice if we could stand united. I'm fresh out of ideas on how to make that come about, given the opposite extremes of belief systems. Maybe some day. Sigh.

WE ARE VERY UNIFIED.

Our political differences make us a great country. We are so free, we feel safe in talking about and criticizing everything we want to.

Imagine living in a totalitarian state where you are afraid what your neighbor thinks of you?

When push comes to shove ,Americans stick together.

I may be conservative but I enjoy that Dems and liberals can spout off on whatever they have to say - we do learn from each other.

It makes us better debaters too (unlike those Europeans who get the same narrow info from state-run television and schools)

We are nowhere within line of sight of being unified.
Most people can't even talk rationally with everyone else.

See the post immediately above mine for a perfect example.
