...and no,... i dint get sprayed with pepper spray. Thing is that i use my fingers to sprinkle pepper on my eggs and then i dint wash my hands properly and rubbed my eyes later. And after it stopped hurting like i was wondering why it burned in the first place.

Because it contains oleo capsicum resin. This generates extreme heat like hot peppers on your tongue.

it's a chemical called capsaicin, it binds to capsaicin receptors, these are the same receptors that are used by your body to regulate temperature. so your body (or eye in this case) thinks its really hot and causes a stinging sensation. I'm wondering why you have pepper in your eye in the first place... were you sprayed by the pepper spray?? :-)

Most things sting when they're in your eye, but pepper has a chemical in it called capsaicin that makes you feel the burn even more.
