Practice, and experience, and more practice, and more experience, and more .....
If you have been behind the wheel and can operate the car, see if there are any driving schools that will train you on private land, or at least on a simulator.
Start learning as soon as you're legally alloowed to. You're at the right age to learn, if you leave it too late it's much more difficult.

oh this one is perfect for me....
Always drive defensive... always assume that the people around you are not paying attention and they are jerks.... then when they are nice you'll be surprised....
Do not tailgate, do not speed (unless everyone else is) (you have to keep up with traffic or you cause a problem)
Leave a safe distance between you and the person in front of you. (some people may take advantage of leaving that space open but leave some room)
Be nice to truck drivers... I know people will say "screw that" but in my defense... you try driving something that is 80 feet long and weighs 80,000 pounds and see how you would handle it. Just remember it takes them way longer to stop then you do so don't cut them off either... otherwise that's bad news for you and your car...
If you live in the northern half where winter is a problem... slow down. Even if you think people are screaming at you from their car, at least you will travel safe and they will call a tow truck.
Another good tip... if you use your windshield wipers turn on your headlights.... if it's raining it's going to be hard to see you and other people...
Just be good... follow the laws of your state... and practice practice practice...
be safe and keep the rubber side down..

Your dad must be a very brave man-it is said that driving lessons and practising with family members is a nono.
Defensive driving classes after licence is way to go. Drive courteously and considerately and suspect that every other driver is an idiot who needs caring for.

expereince is the ONLY way. Watch what your dad does to make himself a better driver, watch all the idiots out there on the road and observe. Too young to drive, but not a bad time to start thinking about it

Besides practice and defensive driving classes, just be sure to always be alert, and never allow your self to be destracted by others in your car or on the road. You can practice your reflex skills about anywhere. And be sure to study the rules of the road .

You can have driving lessons to learn to drive, with a driving school, you can also do defensive driving lessons once you have your license. I had a few professional driving lessons when I learnt to drive, about 3, then my dad taught me the rest of the way.

Sneak out of the house in the middle of the night and drive to the beach in your dad's car, drink some beer and have sex. That's how to become a better driver.

Take the car out at night and practice. It's best to get on the highway and drive 100mph!
