I'm going to assume that this is a basketball question and not a math question, so I'll answer it this way. I believe you are refering to 1 AND 1... not 1 + 1. What that is, is free throws. In college play, teams are allowed 6 fouls per half before the other team can shoot free throws. In fouls 7-9, the team that is fouled shoots 1 free throw, if he makes it then he gets a second one. After 10, they are all 2 shots. In the NBA, 1 and 1 doesn't exist; all fouls (after the 5th one) are 2 shots.
