Psychologist say it is just impressions of the day.
The bible says that God often speaks to us in dreams. Remember Joseph?
I know this to be true. I have had many life altering dreams that prepared me for something or gave me clarity on an issue. I always remember every detail of these dreams. I can still recite them years later.
For example: A year before my father died, I saw him get off a street car. He had an ice cream cone in each hand. As he crossed the street, he became a huge oak tree stretching way up into the sky. I ran off the porch where I'd been standing watching him. Crying, I embraced the tree. When I woke I did not have a sense of sorrow. I knew what the dream meant immediately.
The street car represented traveling or movement through a lifetime. Dad got off. It was the end of his journey. In crossing the street, he "crossed over" into eternal life. The ice cream was the enjoyment he and I shared together in life. He turned into an oak tree because he was a strong and mighty influence in my life. An oak tree has deep roots. It endures many, many years, beyond a lifetime. My bond with my father was deep and the strength I get from him and his memory will last me a lifetime.

As in the dream, when he "changed" a year later, I cried. However, as I awoke from the dream without feeling sorrow, I now embrace his memory without sorrow. I never told my father about the dream, but it prepared me for his death and taught me that life goes on. It strengthened me.
