Look for the store sales since winter is coming.
You can often get great buys on name brands from the more expensive stores such as Robinson/May, Macy's, or whatever is where you live. I have gotten $120. dresses for about $30 which is better than a $30 WalMart dress in my opinion. Also the resale shops are a good resource. You want good and inexpensive, not cheap. There is a difference. Or maybe even borrow one from a friend worn for a different occasion.

I got a cute short black one with polka dots for $10 at JC Pennys...so you could check there or at other department stores. In some stores in the mall they have really cute dresses for $30 and under like Forever 21 or H & M. Good Luck to you.

A lot of larger and not so large places have some volunteers who take donations for prom/dance dresses for girls who have limited resources. Some times you can get a custom made dress for nothing. Try contacting your local Big Sisters organization. I was a poor kid with a goofy body and I learned to sew from scratch so I could have nice stuff. It's always less expensive and you get something entirely unique. Good luck and have fun!

find a nice second hand store that specializes in dresses. we have one that carries super nice gorgeous dresses.
