The spots cannot be removed with a home power washer. When I remove the tarry material with my fingernail a stain remains on the siding. My daughter has the same problem in a NH. I live in NY. I can get them off the windows with Windex and a razor. How can I remove these spots and the stains from the siding?

This sounds like mildew or fungi growing by your house. Try some bleach and water in your home power washer and you could also try spraying straight white vinegar on your siding. Other than that I would go to Home Depot or Lowes and ask them what is good for the stains and explain what the stain looks like. Good Luck to you and your siding!!

If your area is very damp, it's probably mold that's growing. Use bleach or go to the Home Depot or other hardware store and they'll have a pro strength mold remover. Be careful. If it is mold the spores could cause serious problem in the health of young, elderly or people already sick!

I wonder if this is the infamous black mold. Have you found any of it inside your house; any damp areas in your basement? Does the substance penetrate the siding of your house? Is anyone in your home suffering from respiratory or flu-like symptoms that don't seem to clear up completely? You should have it checked out professionally because black mold is an insidious problem that doesn't go away easily and without professional help.

Sounds like mold or some fungus. Get a mold/fungus killer and spray it down. It may still leave a stain but at least it won't keep growing.
Might try Clorox and water mix and spray and then clean with a power washer.
