I've heard some people refer to compromise as a win-win. Actually, compromise is lose-lose because neither side gets what it wants. The definition of compromise is giving up some of what you want to reach an agreement. In a way it is similar to consensus, but consensus refers to unanimity of opinion and is more of a process than a substantial result.
Think of this example. If a seller wants $200 and the buyer is willing to take it for not more than $300 then they can both meet somewhere betwee and be happy, a win-win. If the seller wants $300 and the buyer is at $200 and the settle somewhere in the middle, then they have compromised because each failed to meet their goal.

I feel compromise is a useful only when the players are rational. Implementing a compromise with irrational players is reckless on both parts; and by doing so demeans the definition of compromise. All too often I see compromised misplaced in context or misused by principle. These situations, I feel, are more of a threatening or persuasive, rhetoric nature.

The older I get the more I find it a part of Everything.
Was not always that way but compromising and sometimes bargaining 10 outta 10 times gets the results I intended.

I avoid committees and groups where decisions are made for that same reason. I do not compromise with principles of fairness, or what I KNOW is correct. Committees are for those who have no ideas of their own to latch onto and to look as though they had a hand in matters they know nothing about, the inept, inaffective and incompetent... they do nothing but form clicks to impede progress with their asinine meddling. They only spew nonsense for the sake of hearing their own voices.
Compromises are only affective in situations where there are wars involved and each side has to yield something to reach an accord that is equitable... but not in committees.
THAT is the only compromise I believe in, to end wars and stop senseless killing.

Compromise is a necessary part of life. It's how we keep our children happy....and our marriages as peaceful as possible. No two people are identical, so we all have different needs--hence, we all have to come to some sort of compromise if we're ever going to get along!

I think the level of compromise is something both persons in a relationship should agree on, before starting it.

Compromise will only work when both party willingly agree and understand the reson why it has been made.
So that the objective will be the one to lead both through the process and all the questions after that you may have!

Life is a continuation of compromises... You never get everything you want... you learn to compromise and settle for what you get...
I also think it's a sign of maturity and wisdom!
