He has had two incidents of diahrroea- treated wth antibiotics. but during both cases, even after completing the course his stool remained green, watery, with pus and foam. I have introduced semi solid (once daily) now and this had made the stool a little more thick now, however pus and foam are still seen and the color is green. Also, whenever we give him Lactogen I he gets severe flatulence, vomiting, and then indigested milk in the stool.

Similac makes a formula called Similac Lactose Free Advanced with Iron. I would ask your pediatrician about this first, before switching his formula, because it could also be an allergy to milk based products. For this there are two formulas that come highly recommended...Nutramigen made by Enfamil...Alimentum made by Similac. Both of these formulas are predigested to be easier on the baby's digestive system. I went through all of the formulas you could think of before I found Similac Lactose Free. Turns out that my son has reflux also, but this formula worked wonders on his digestive system. Check for allergies first, because Lactose Free is also milk based, not soy. Trial and error is the only way to find the problem (without a million tests) unfortunately.

Good luck and I hope you find something that works for you. Whatever the problem is, it needs to be addressed immediately. If your pediatrician has not tried to find a solution to this problem after the first incident and his reaction to the Lactogen, I would consider a new pediatrician. This should NOT be a reoccurring problem! I would definitely try a new formula, though, it sounds like this is the problem. Just note, that if the Lactose free does not work, try the Nutramigen. I wish you the best of luck, and hope that your son feels better very soon!

Through personal experience, lactose intolerance is really hard to diagnose. We had major vomiting about 1-2 hours after a feed (which would mean that when the body is trying to digest the milk it doesn't agree with them), I mean we could go through about 6 babygrows a night with the vomiting. You could speak to your Health Visitor and ask if this could be it....if they agree we used sma Wysoy formula milk and it certainly did the trick. Good luck.

If your son is having indigested milk, he very well may suffer from lactose intolerance. I recommend a smaller dose of Lactogen if he is having the problems that you mentioned. They are side effects of the medicine, especially if stronger doses are given.

Caucasion babies typically don't show symptoms of being lactose intolerant until they are atleast 3 years old (if the baby was full term. premies have differant stats). The symptoms of lactose intolerance is:

* Abdominal cramps
* Bloating
* Flatulence
* Weight loss
* Malnutrition
* Slow growth
* Abdominal distention
* Abdominal fullness, gaseous
* Diarrhea
* Floating stools
* Foul-smelling stools

You could try switching your baby to Goat Milk - which is more easily digested or ask the pediatrician.

i'm not so sure if normal diahrrea needed to be treated with antibiotics in the first place.

then second, i tink 4 months old is too young to be on solid food.

and third, i don't know why you would made a conclusion that he is suffering from lactose intolorence

for lactose intolerence, usually you will be quite gassy, some tummy ache and diahrrea.

may be you need a new pediatrician

Well my son had problems with that and he NEVER had pus and foam in his stool... you need to see your pediatrician.. that doesn't sound good at all... Pus usually means infection not lactose intolerance

i do not wade through from it, yet an exciting reality is that being lactose illiberal is popular. those those who are not lactose illiberal are honestly "mutants". i exploit mutants in a clinical time period, as our genetic make up is mutated.

Sounds as though your pediatrician better do some testing, then can refer you to a specialist to do allergy testing if necessary.

If you can't take your son to the doctor right away then go to the website webmd. They could tell you.
