I have been looking at Grand am cars. I like the styles 2001 - 2005.
Have you had any problems with cars made in this year range?
Are they good cars?

ok i am not an owner but i have been working on them for six years. here are the things that WILL go bad.
1- the intake manifold gaskett will leak coolant on v6 engines
2- the fuel pump will go out
3- the security chip in the lock cylinder will fail and car wont start
4- the power seats will break
5- the power window regulators will break
6- it will most likely leak water in the passenger floor board

but all said i think they are pretty good cars.

I owned a 2001 Grand Am. I really enjoyed the car. I did not have any major mechanical problems in the year that I owned it. At the time my husband lived 3 hours away and I would drive 1 - 2 times a week to see him. I put 25,000 miles on the car in six months. The car was comfortable, easy to drive, it handled very well in crappy Montana weather. It stopped quickly (we have deer all over the roads here). I really like Pontiac and I have owned several Bonnevilles also. The only drawback is that Pontiacs are quite expensive to fix when something does finally break. The nice thing is that they typically last well over 120,000 miles before you have to do anything more than maintenance.

i have had my 01 gt for almost 2 years and have put about 30k miles on it. i have never had a wheel hub go out, nor a fuel pump and i am over 60k miles. sterio isnt stock at all, so that doesnt matter. the only thing with grand ams that is a major problem is that the lower intake manifold gasket goes bad after about 75k miles. and sometimes the head gasket as well. fuel pumps wear out with age, cant really prevent that. i personally have never had a major problem with my car, and love it. but then again nothing on the engine is stock from the heads up.

i have an 05 se has about 21k miles on it. it runs really well. the brake pads started squeaking about 2 weeks ago so i am going to get that checked tomorrow as well as the routine engine check. no major problems. wish the stereo was better but what can you expect for the base model.
