Actually, there are two versions of the origin of the word "nerd." First, the word is "knurd," or the spelling of "drunk" backwards giving reference to an oppositie meaning. However, the true origin of the word arose in 1950 in Dr. Suess' "If I Ran the Zoo" in which the character Gerald Mcgrew suggested that if he were in charge of the zoo he would bring in from the land of Ka-Troo large amounts of Nerds. These creatures were depicted as "grumpy humanoids with unruly hair and sideburns, wearing a black T-shirt." While the children were repeating the word from this book, the teenagers of the 1950's picked it up and used it to mean "square." But, pertaining to Pharrell - Noone Ever Really Dies. Hope this helps.
