About a month ago I sang a bad high note that turned into a screeching sound and since then I've had a slight sore throat on the left side of my throat that hasn't gone away and seems to have gotten worse. When I look in the mirror it seems like the left tonsil is redder and maybe has a sore. I went to see a doctor and he said he can't see anything and doesn't know what it is (I have an appointment with an ENT in 2 weeks!). Does anyone know what to do about a sore that is caused by bad singing? Does this lead to a viral infection?

You should always drink a cup of warm tea with lemon juice in it before any vocal performance and a cup of worm tea with honey afterwards. There aren't any known infections caused by singing but you could have contracted an infection in another way. Keep singing. Even if it is off key, out of tune or just bad it helps you to feel good.

Vocal strain/tention is real and can be painful. It destroys tone quality restricts range and and turns singing into a chore.
In most cases vocal strain/tention is caused by bad singing technique . You need to learn good singing technique and this will disappear. Simply put when you sing every note should be easy to hit and with no tention. When your singing correctly its like pressing the keys on a piano, each note can be pressed with same ease , No pushing, pulling or straining.
Look into taking a singing lesson or two.

Your tonsils may add to resonance but have nothing to do with voice and a 'sore' could be a sign of infection. It is very likely you have strained your vocal cords or may even have a nodule on them but wait until you have your ENT exam. It will not lead to a viral infection, but should one occur, it is not related.
